The Grundy Center summer sports teams both won at Hudson Tuesday. The softball team won 10-9 and the baseball team won 15-1 in six innings.
In the softball game, Maddy Hendershot, Carlie Willis and Lucy Lebo each had three hits to lead offensively. Lebo had three doubles and five RBIs. Willis had a triple and an RBI and Hendershot had a double. Kyndra Dieken had two RBIs. Willis and Evelyn Geerdes each drove in one run. Hendershot pitched six innings with five strikeouts, four walks and six hits. Grundy Center (10–11, 3-6 NICL-W) will be at Denver Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
In the baseball game, the Spartans led 5-1 after the fifth inning. But the lead became insurmountable when they scored 10 in the sixth while holding the Pirates off the board to end the game early. Judd Jirovsky led with three hits and two RBIs. Tate Jirovsky, Pete Lebo and Dayton Myers each had two hits. Lebo drove in three runs and Tanner Laube drove in four. Brayden Davie pitched the complete game with five strikeouts, 11 hits and no walks. Grundy Center (11-6, 7-3 NICL-W) has won four straight and will be at Denver Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
