Falcon Baseball beats Hudson in extras, Softball falls in five

The Aplington-Parkersburg baseball team survived a 10-inning battle, beating Hudson 5-4 at home Thursday. The softball team lost 12-2 in five innings.

The Falcon baseball team took a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two in the third inning. Hudson responded with three in the fifth, and they tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth. After two scoreless extra innings, Preston Janssen walked, followed by Gabe Jacobson being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 10th. The Falcons won when Nick Neuroth hit a fly ball to right field that allowed Janssen to score the winning run from second base. Sully Janssen was 2-for-5 and Devin Davis was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Cooper Hoff was the winning pitcher with one strikeout and three hits in five innings. AP (11-5, 6-4 NICL-C) will return to action Monday at Denver for a doubleheader.

In the softball game, Hudson steadily built a 5-0 lead after three innings, and added three more in the fourth to lead 8-0. Ada Switzer hit a double and Kendall Riherd hit a two-run home run in the fourth to get the Falcons on the board, but they were the only two hits of the game. After Hudson scored twice in the fifth, the Falcons couldn’t respond, and the game ended early. Aubrey Williamson pitched three innings with one strikeout, two walks and five hits. AP (6-10, 4-6 NICL-C) will be at Denver for a doubleheader Monday.
