Falcon summer teams split doubleheaders at Denver Monday

The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams each split doubleheaders at Denver Monday in their NICL-Central finales. The baseball team lost 4-3 and won 9-2. The softball team lost 12-0 and won 3-2.

In the first baseball game, the Falcons scored first, but the Cyclones scored the next four between the first and fifth innings. AP added one each in the sixth and seventh, but was unable to rally further. Devin Davis led with three hits and an RBI. Preston Janssen pitched 4.2 innings with six strikeouts, two walks and six hits.

The first six innings of Game 2 were similar. The Falcons scored in the top of the first inning, but Denver answered for a 2-1 lead after four. After scoring once each in the fifth and sixth innings, they opened the margin with six runs in the seventh. Gabe Jacobson and Jaxson Kleespies each had three hits. Devin Davis pitched 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts, five walks and three hits. In the process, he set the new school record for career strikeouts with 232.
