A local effort is underway to help the City of Spencer as the community of 11-thousand continues to be impacted by flooding from the recent heavy rain that fell.
Kara Powers of Hampton has a sister and her family who live in Spencer. They had 4 feet of water in their basement, and the foundation is in danger of collapsing. There is also no running water and no sewer service in the Clay County community.
Powers tells Radio on the Go News that donations are now being accepted, and those donations will be delivered to Spencer.
“They need like heavy duty trash bags, empty coolers, razors, bars of soap, body wash, over the counter medications like Tylenol, ibuprofen, Tums, allergy relief, you know, just stuff like that. First aid kits, wet wipes, newborn diapers and newborn clothes for the newborn. And they said underwear for all ages. Just things that we don’t think, you know, that we kind of take for granted. They’re needing these things. Like they’re going to be needing totes, and like with lids to be able to put their things in, to be able to go through, to keep them clean and dry, disinfected cleaners, braids, things like that.”
Powers says donations can be dropped off in Hampton, Allison, and Parkersburg.
“KLMJ and Hampton from eight to five weekdays. Butler County Public Health Building in Allison eight to 430 weekdays. And then also the Butler County CERT team will be accepting donations at Parkersburg Fire Department from five to six PM the rest of this week. And I think she’ll be on the south side, but it’s just from five to six that they will be there accepting donations.”
