The North Butler baseball and West Fork softball teams scored early and often on their way to victories in rematches on Tuesday. North Butler baseball won 13-7 over the Warhawks, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. West Fork softball ended the game early at 11-1 in five innings.

In the baseball game, North Butler captured the early momentum on senior night as all nine batters stepped to the plate in a five run first inning. West Fork cut into the lead with a pair in the third that made it 5-2. North Butler regained some breathing room with a four run third to go up 9-2. The Warhawks answered with four of their own in the 5th to get back within three. The Bearcats put the game away with two runs in the fifth and sixth.

Bearcat Head Coach Chase Stohr says the team is building momentum for the postseason and Carter Miller was back on track on the mound.

“I’ve been telling the boys down the stretch here the last couple weeks, that right now it’s about building towards the postseason and trying to chain some wins together, get some momentum going,” says Stohr. “All season we haven’t been able to get every aspect of the game clicking and tonight was probably our closest that we have done that. We got a win out of it and hopefully we can get a couple more wins here going into the postseason. Proud of him. I know at the beginning of the season he kind of struggled on the mound which was frustrating for him but he’s got back on track the last couple starts he’s had. He came out there and pitched great for us.”

The Bearcats were led by senior Lucas Goodrich with 3 RBI’s. Senior Carter Miller earned the win allowing four earned runs with eight strikeouts in six innings. Goodrich secured the save working the seventh. West Fork was led by Ashyr Wiseman with 2 RBI’s.

North Butler (4-15, 3-12 Top of Iowa East) will be at Rockford on Wednesday. West Fork (9-11, 5-6) will return home to face Nashua-Plainfield on Wednesday.
