The Dike-New Hartford summer sports teams were both dominant in wins at AGWSR Thursday. The Wolverines won the baseball game 16-0 in four innings and the softball game 12-0 in five innings.

In the baseball game, Ryan Gudgeon singled to drive in the first run, and Collin Meester drove in two on a double for a 3-0 lead in the second inning. The Wolverines went through the batting order more than twice in the third inning, where they stretched the lead with 11 runs. Micah Walston had an RBI single, followed by a run scoring when Gavin Gerbracht reached on an error. After Walston scored on an errant throw to the outfield, Gudgeon drove in three runs on a double. Conner Dancer drove in a run on an infield fly for a 10-0 lead, which is where the first out of the inning was recorded. Keegan Bolhuis singled to drive in a run, Walston hit an RBI double, Cole McCumber was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Dancer hit a sacrifice fly to complete the third inning scoring. Needing one run to possibly end the game after four innings, Lewis Textor and Quinn Mills scored on an errant throw for a 16-0 lead in the fourth. Head Coach Jordan Martin says it was an all-around productive game.

“We came out swinging because we knew we had to,” Martin says. “We had a freshman on the bump. We knew that he would shut them down, but just giving him those insurance runs always helps. I mean, Gavin threw a great game and just being able to get those hits and those runs behind him was huge. We just limited our mistakes. We put the ball in play when we needed to. Did very good with two outs. And like I said, I couldn’t be more proud of Gavin the way he pitched today.”

Gerbracht pitched the complete game with three strikeouts, no walks and three hits. Bolhuis and Walston each had three hits. DNH (13-10) will be at #3 (1A) Newman Catholic Friday at 7:00 p.m. AGWSR (4-18) will return to action at a tournament at Colo-Nesco Saturday.

In the softball game, the Wolverines were dominant in their fourth straight game that they ended early. The Wolverines (17-8) will host Don Bosco Monday. AGWSR (2-23) will host North Butler Friday at 7:00 p.m.
