The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams will play in different locations Friday. The baseball team will be at Dunkerton for non-conference action and the softball team will host an NICL crossover with Grundy Center.

The Falcon baseball team (13-7) will look to close the week strong after a 2-2 start. Head Coach Brett Kleespies on the objectives for the end of the regular season.

“Playing some good defense, and there’s a few guys that I don’t think we were talking tonight, I don’t think Cooper Hoff has got a ball since Wapsie Valley,” Kleespies says. “So trying to get him some balls and a little bit of action. We’ll have some good practices and then a couple games and we’ll have about a week that we can practice and do some things that we need to do and kind of sure up some pitching and get some arms some rest. A lot of reps and hopefully get some good quality at bats. There’s a couple guys that are seeing first pitches and swinging at them and we’re popping up or rolling over. Just a little bit more confident at bats going into the postseason where some deeper at bats may help us pitching wise.”

In Wednesday’s 11-6 home win over South Hardin, the Falcons racked up 11 hits, including three by Preston Janssen.

Dunkerton (7-8) has won two straight, including 9-1 over Colo-Nesco and 8-3 over Vinton-Shellsburg this week.

The Falcon softball team (8-12) will look to finish the week on a high note, having gone 2-2. They’re coming off a 10-4 home loss to South Hardin Wednesday, where a seventh inning comeback fell short.

Grundy Center (10-15) is coming off an 11-4 home loss to #12 (3A) West Marshall Thursday.
Both games will start at 5:00 p.m.
