Thursday, Hampton Mayor Steve Birdsall attended his first council meeting since suffering a stroke on April 30th.
Birdsall spoke to the council during public comment about his recovery and coming back to work with the council in the near future.

“I just wanted to stop in tonight and number one I want to kind of start feeling the council again and getting myself in there as part of my therapy as well to get comfortable with talking and that kind of stuff. So it was a vicious rumor circulating that I wasn’t doing well. I received the calls on that but as you can see I feel pretty good and I think everything is going okay. Looking maybe hopefully in the next month I can get back in here and work with you guys.”
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Davies has been presiding over council meetings through Birdsall’s absence.
In other business, the Hampton City Council approved the payment of pay estimate #1 from Henkel Construction Company in the amount of $62,462.50 for the water treatment plant improvement project. The Hampton City Council also approved a resolution awarding a construction contract to Brian Nettleton Excavating of Joice, Iowa for the 2024 water main improvement project.
