The Hampton-Dumont-CAL softball and baseball teams were scheduled to host Webster City for senior night and to close the North Central Conference portion of their season on Friday. Both games were postponed due to weather.

HD-CAL softball(7-14, 5-8 NCC) lost 14-2 at Clear Lake in four innings on Wednesday. Teaghan Bird has helped generate the Bulldogs offense with a .362 avg. 21 hits and 14 runs scored. Aspen Harlan leads the team with 14 RBI’s.

HD-CAL Softball Coach Kelsey Enslin says the Bulldogs are looking to improve on solid contact in at bats.

“Having a very few number of strikeout, continuing to do that, making sure we’re attacking when we get a strike early,” says Enslin. “You start to face really good pitchers and if you let them get ahead, they really take control and it lets them do what they’re best at. Making sure that we jump on strikes that we get right away, not fouling those off. For bunting, execute that right away when you get the strike, small detail, things like that.”

HD-CAL baseball (8-17, 4-10 NCC) lost 8-4 to Saydel on Thursday. Cael Burmester drove in three runs to lead Bulldogs in loss at Saydel. Brody Walton has been very productive in the leadoff spot with .417 avg. 31 runs and 17 stolen bases.

Bulldog Baseball Coach Matt Lokenvitz says the team continues to build to be at their best in July.

“It’s not about how well you’re playing at the beginning of the season, we knew we were young, we knew we were going to be inexperienced,” says Lokenvitz. “It’s about growing and seeing where we’re going to be competing at the end of the season. As long as we can keep building on that every day, every week into that, I think we’ll be playing our best baseball when we hit July.”

The Bulldog softball seniors are Teaghan Bird, Emma Ott and Aspen Harlan. The Bulldogs baseball seniors are Cael Burmester, Brody Walton and Joseph Huerta. Will be recognized at game on July 2nd.
