The Grundy Center softball team fell 11-4 at home Thursday to #12 (3A) West Marshall.
The Trojans scored twice in the first, but the Spartans tied it a 2-2 in the bottom of the first. Five scoreless innings followed for Grundy Center, while West Marshall scored three in the second, five in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Spartans followed with two runs in the seventh. Carlie Willis had two hits. Maddy Hendershot pitched 5.2 innings with three strikeouts, eight walks, one hit batter and nine hits. Grundy Center (10-15) will be at Aplington-Parkersburg Friday at 5:00 p.m.
The Spartan baseball team (13-6) will return to action by hosting #1 (2A) West Marshall Friday. Grundy Center has won six straight, and will return to action for the first time since Monday’s road sweep of Gladbrook-Reinbeck, which clinched the NICL-West title. The Trojans (31-1) are coming off a 12-0, five inning home win over Greene County Thursday. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
