The AGWSR baseball team picked up two much-needed wins at a tournament at Colo-Nesco Saturday. The Cougars defeated Rockford 6-0 and the hosts 8-3 in eight innings.
Against Rockford, the Cougars scored twice each in the second, sixth and seventh innings, earning their first shutout win of the season. Trace Eiten led offensively with two hits. Ryne Pickering was the winning pitcher with one strikeout, two walks and three hits in four innings pitched. Tristen Dennis and Kingston Holman also pitched.
Against Colo-Nesco, the Cougars scored once each in the first, third and fifth innings. The Royals scored all their runs in the fourth. Tied at 4-4, the Cougars scored five in the top of the eighth to secure the win. Remington Kerns and Dennis each had two hits. Holman had a home run. He was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts, no walks and no hits in four innings. AGWSR (6-18) will host Iowa Falls-Alden Monday at 7:00 p.m.
