July 1st is the first day of the state’s new fiscal year, and that means some new laws took effect today.

For example, when it comes to breast cancer exams, health insurers will be required to cover supplemental breast examinations and diagnostic breast examinations beyond just a simple mammogram.

1 in 8 women get breast cancer at some point during their life.

Another new law involves foreign farmland ownership.

This law amends current registration requirements for nonresident owners of ag land to include birthplace, nationality, the purpose of the business, information of the daily supervisor of the land, and the information of the owner’s company and parent companies.

It increases the financial penalty for failing to register or falsifying information from 2-thousand dollars to 25 percent of the land’s assessed value.
