The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams each won non-conference games Monday. At home, the softball team homered three times to beat BCLUW 11-1 in five innings. The baseball team won 8-2 at Dunkerton.
In the softball game, the Falcons got on the board when Avery Freund drove in two runs in the first. In the second, Eva Walker doubled a run in for a 3-1 lead, followed by a two-run home run by Ada Switzer for a 5-1 lead. In the third, Freund scored on a passed ball for a 6-1 lead. Kendall Riherd hit a grand slam for a 10-1 lead in the fourth. Needing one run to end the game early, Switzer hit her second homer of the game, a solo, to win the game. Walker, Switzer and Freund each had three hits. Aubrey Williamson pitched the complete game with two strikeouts, three walks and six hits. AP (9-12) will close the regular season Wednesday at South Tama.
The baseball team heated up with four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. After the Falcons scored one in the fourth, Dunkerton cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth. But AP got some needed insurance with three in the seventh. Tate Neymeyer and Devin Davis each had two hits and two RBIs. Preston Janssen pitched six innings with six strikeouts. AP (14-7) will host Alburnett Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
