The West Fork baseball team (10-13) ended the regular season with a 2-1 loss against Central Springs on Monday.

Warhawk Head Coach Kayden Ames reflects on the strides the team has made to this point.

“From the end of last year, I talked to the guys after we lost in the postseason and I said, alright, here we are, we can decide to come back and be the same team next year or we can get better, we can grow and I think they did a great job of that,” says Ames. “Working hard in the preseason, working hard all year long. It’s a streaky game and we’ve had our ups and our downs but I think overall we’ve gotten better as a team as the year has gone on. I’m happy with where we’re at.”

During the year, Nolan Schreckengost, with a .403 avg. and 27 runs scored, helped light the fire for the Warhawks at the plate. Edison Maske quieted opponent batting orders with a 1.48 ERA and 36 strikeouts.

The Warhawks will host (6-17) GMG in a Class 1A Substate 3 first round game on Saturday on 99 The Wave.

The West Fork softball team (14-7) has one more game on deck to make up against Saint Ansgar on Monday, June 8th. The game was originally rescheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd but was rained out.

Head Coach Sadie Winfrey noted the importance of players being rested and game ready amidst busy schedules.

“It can be crazy for some of them, you have a lot that are in the weight room in the morning, others that work, but they need to stay rested,” says Winfrey. “Sometimes it can be hard having games every week. That’s nice sometimes when you have different players, you can kind of switch in and out depending on who you’re going to play. They just need to stay mentally ready as they have some different things that they’ll do throughout the summer.”

Joanna Wallace has boosted the offense batting over .400. with 25 runs scored. Libby Trewin leads the Warhawks in ERA, strikeouts and RBI.

Following their matchup with the Saints, the Warhawks begin the 2A postseason by hosting South Hardin on Wednesday, July 10th.
