West Fork Baseball looking to regain momentum as postseason begins

The West Fork baseball team will go for its first playoff win since 2019 when it hosts GMG in a district quarterfinal Saturday. It’ll be the second game of a doubleheader, and is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on 99 The Wave.

At 10-13, the Warhawks have lost six of their last seven games, but will look to extend their season with a bounce-back win. Head Coach Kayden Ames says the team earned a favorable bracket with a strong start.

“We got off to a hot start for the year, so that helped us with our seeding and where we got placed in the district play,” Ames says. “But I think we have a very favorable, if we show up and play the way that I know we can play, I think we can get to that district final for sure.”

Ames says freshmen Zander Hansen and Braylon Shreckengost have taken strides as underclassmen starters that have bolstered the team. Hansen leads in RBIs with 21.

“Zander has been huge for us as well as Braylon Shreckengost. Both of them started as eighth graders. So coming into this year, I didn’t know exactly how they would take that jump from eighth grade to freshman year. You know, they’re still young. They’re still younger than most people we play. So I’m really happy with the way both of them stepped up and taken the jump from year one to year two.”

GMG (6-17) has lost four straight, including Monday’s 6-1 loss at Dunkerton. Colin Teske bats .431 to lead the team, but the pitching staff has given up nearly seven runs per game.

The winner will advance to Tuesday’s district semifinal against either AGWSR or Colo-Nesco.
