Grundy Center Softball takes down South Hamilton to begin postseason

The Grundy Center softball team was efficient offensively in Monday’s 9-4 win at South Hamilton in a 2A Region 6 first round game.

Lucy Lebo drove in the first run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. In the second, Evelyn Geerdes drove in a run for a 2-1 lead. They stretched the lead to 6-1 in the third inning with RBIs from Allison Koch, Geerdes and Maddy Hendershot, followed by a Kyndra Dieken RBI in the fourth. In the seventh, Carlie Willis hit a double that drove in two runs to complete the scoring. The Hawks only managed sporadic runs throughout.
Lebo, Dieken and Geerdes each had three hits. Willis, Koch and Geerdes each drove in two runs. Hendershot pitched 6.1 innings with a season-high 11 strikeouts, six walks and eight hits.

Grundy Center (11-17) has advanced to a regional quarterfinal at #2 (2A) Alburnett Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
