The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team was limited to three hits and faced busy innings defensively in a 9-1 loss at Roland-Story in a Class 2A district semifinal on Tuesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.
Roland-Story capitalized early with heavy traffic on the base pads with four runs over the first two innings. The Cowboys worked their way on base via walks but were limited to only two hits through the first four innings. The Norsemen extended their lead to 7-0 with two runs in the 4th and one in the 5th. The Cowboys scored their only run in the 6th on a laser RBI double to the wall in left center field by Huxley Lingenfelter. The Norsemen added two more runs in the 6th to close out the win.
Roland-Story had seven different players drive in a run. Brett Schmitz worked the win for the Norsemen allowing no runs with eight strikeouts in five innings. CGD was led by Huxley Lingenfelter with an RBI and Mason Allen recorded two hits.
Roland-Story (15-17) advances to face Dike-New Hartford in Class 2A District 4 final on Saturday. CGD closes the season at 12-17.
