Dike-New Hartford Baseball Takes Advantage of Mistakes in District Semifinal Win over IFA

The Dike-New Hartford baseball team took control of the game on the mound and took advantage of scoring opportunities to pull away for a 7-2 win over Iowa Falls-Alden in a Class 2A district semifinal at Roland-Story on Tuesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The Wolverines advance back to a district final for the first time since 2022.

DNH scored the first two runs of the game on a throwing error to first base by the Cadets in the first inning. The Wolverines added single tallies in the 2nd on a Colin Meester RBI single and in 4th on a pass ball to extend their lead to 4-0. The Cadets, after recording only two hits through the first four innings, rallied for their first run in the 5th on an RBI single by Matthew Harms. DNH regained some breathing room with a 7-1 lead as three runs came around to score in the 5th. IFA got a run back on a RBI single by Raine Pitre in the 7th and the Wolverines ended the Cadets rally with the bases loaded. The Wolverines offense took advantage of eight walks and three errors in the win.

Colin Meester and Ryan Gudgeon led the Wolverines with an RBI apiece. Conner Dancer earned the win for DNH allowing only one earned run with eight strikeouts in 4 ⅔ innings. IFA was led by Matthew Harms and Raine Pitre who each drove in a run.

Dike-New Hartford (14-12) advances to the Class 2A District 4 final against Roland-Story on Saturday. Iowa Falls-Alden ends the year at 5-18.
