Spartan Softball to face tall task at #2 (2A) Alburnett Wednesday

The Grundy Center softball team will be put to the test in Wednesday’s 2A Region 6 quarterfinal at #2 (2A) Alburnett.

The Spartans (11-17) are coming off a 9-4 win at South Hamilton in Monday’s first round game, where a consistent offense helped seal the road win. It also snapped a six-game losing streak to end the regular season. Kyndra Dieken and Lucy Lebo each had three hits in the win.

Alburnett (29-6) won the Tri-Rivers Conference West and will begin the playoffs, having earned a first round bye as the top seed in the region. In their regular season finale, the fell 10-0 to #1 (3A) Benton on Wednesday, July 3. Three players bat above .400, including Savannah Caves with a .448.

The game will start at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to Friday’s regional semifinal against either West Fork or South Hardin.
