The Hampton-Dumont-CAL softball team will venture to Forest City to get the Class 3A playoffs underway on Thursday. This will be the first meeting between the programs since 2021.
HD-CAL(7-16) wrapped up the regular season with a 12-7 loss to Nevada on Monday. Senior Aspen Harlan holds a team low 2.81 ERA in the circle with 41 strikeouts in 14 appearances. Senior Teaghan Bird has helped spark Bulldog scoring rallies with .353 avg. and 16 runs scored.
HD-CAL Head Coach Kelsey Enslin says center field and pitcher are two skill areas for the Indians and it should be a good matchup.
“I was really happy with our first round matchup of going to Forest City,” says Enslin. “Obviously we always want a home game. I have done alittle scouting talking to acouple coaches, about what Forest City has to offer. I’ve heard their center fielder is awesome, phenomenal and has a great arm, so keeping that in mind. We talked alittle bit about their pitcher. I think it’ll be a really good game, it’s a pretty good matchup for us. Had some focused practices and head to Forest City on Thursday and give it our best shot.”
Forest City(15-6) won 4-1 over Algona in their final regular season game on Monday. Sophomore Dru Seglem leads the team with 25 RBI’s. 8th grader Brooklynn Gerdes manages the circle for Forest City with 2.38 ERA and 98 strikeouts.
