Clarksville Softball facing BCLUW in regional semifinal Friday

The #13 (1A) Clarksville softball team will face its second straight Iowa Star Conference opponent in the playoffs when it hosts BCLUW in a 1A Region 5 semifinal Friday.

The Indians (20-9) are coming off Wednesday’s 8-3 win over Janesville, where they scored six runs in the first three innings to pull away. Racking up 12 hits as a team, Emmalee Manwarren had three hits, while Claire Lodge had three hits and three RBIs and a home run. Hannah Wangsness also homered. The Indians have won all four documented meetings with BCLUW, dating to 2021.

The Comets (15-16) began the playoffs with a 17-5, four-inning win over Baxter in the first round, followed by a 4-1 mild upset win at BGM in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. At .267, the Comets rank second in batting average in the South division, behind Collins-Maxwell. Callie Swanson bats .385 to lead.

The game will start at 7:00 p.m. at Volunteer Park. The winner will advance to Monday’s regional final against either Murray or #7 (1A) Southeast Warren.
