The Weaver Family Green Belt Bank and Trust joined the We Will collective to beat the heat and host over 200 players grades 4th-8th for a football clinic on Sunday at Cadet Field in Iowa Falls. The drills at the clinic were managed by Iowa St. football players and coaches. All proceeds benefited Make-A-Wish Iowa.
Weaver Family Green Belt Bank and Trust Owner Chris Weaver says it’s an honor to be able to give back and the event was a draw beyond just local communities.
“It’s been a real honor for Greenbelt Bank and Trust family, the Weaver family, all our volunteers and helpers, our coaches, ADs, to be able to chip in and assist on a worthy cause,” says Weaver. “A good effort to help real people right here in Hardin County. Our clinic’s actually hosting players from 40 different communities, so this isn’t just a local deal. We got people from all around who are a part of it. We’re excited about it. We’re excited about continuing this effort and just feel blessed to have this opportunity.”
Weaver says it was special for participants to be able to interact with Cyclones players.
“D1 stars, you got JJ Kohl, a local Ankeny kid, and you got a lot of guys you’re going to see playing on Saturdays here this coming fall, and maybe even a couple guys playing on Sundays after that. For these kids to be able to interact with these guys, it’s a special thing. A lot of fun.”
Weaver says the event raised over double their goal and having a local impact has always been a mission.
“We set a goal, to raise about $30,000, I think we’re gonna hit about $70,000. We went over double our goal, just over four months of work. We’re gonna get cracking right away and see if we can’t break that for next year after this is over. Something that our bank has done traditionally, we’ve always tried to be really impactful, a part of what’s going on, and give back. I think this is the tip of the iceberg for us.”
