The West Fork softball team advanced to next week’s state tournament with a 3-0 shutout of Hudson in the Class 2A Region 6 final in Sheffield Monday night.
That was one of 12 strikeouts by Warhawk junior pitcher Libby Trewin who picked up the win for West Fork. Trewin pitched seven innings in the shutout of Hudson to advance to state.

“That is so exciting to me. I knew coming into this game, we talked about how calm this comes from your mind, not from your body. And we just really talked about staying calm all throughout the game. We jumped early and we got excited. We didn’t get complacent. We really just fired up and finished.”
West Fork jumped on Hudson early, as they scored all three of their runs in the first inning with JoAnna Wallace, Trewin and Preslee Dickman each picking up an RBI in the frame.
Libby Trewin was able to pitch out of some jams in the game. Hudson had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the second inning but Trewin recorded two strikeouts and forced a groundout to end the threat. West Fork coach Sadie Winfrey says the moment is never too big for her junior pitcher.

“She’s able to keep her composure. Now those are high pressure situations and she’s really got us out of multiple situations in which we have base runners on her. And you know, I think she’s also very confident in her team behind her. So she throws the best of her ability and a lot of time it just plays in her favor and she does a good job.”
Hudson freshman pitcher Laynee Oldenburger took the loss for the Pirates as their season comes to a close at 26-10.
West Fork improves to 19-7 overall and will have to wait until tomorrow for the release of the 2A state softball pairings.
