The 42nd Governor’s Charity Steer Show will be held August 10th during the 2024 Iowa State Fair.
The event, hosted by the Office of the Governor of Iowa, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Iowa Beef Industry Council, helps raise money for the three independent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa, located in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City.
Lucy Wibholm, a student at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, will take part in this year’s Governor’s Charity Steer Show and spoke with Radioonthego News during the Franklin County Fair Saturday about her steer, named Ronnie, and how she is preparing for the event in August.

“I get to go to the fair, where we raise money to go to the Ronald McDonald House for children. He is a white smoke. So we basically have a routine that we go through every morning. We first walk, usually in the mornings, then wash, feed, tie him up, so they get good standing time, usually do that twice a day, everyday.”
The steer Wibholm showed at this year’s Franklin County Fair weighed in at 1,325 pounds.
Last year’s Governor’s Charity Steer Show raised $501,000 and to date, the event has raised over $5.1 million since its inception in 1983.
