The AGWSR softball team had its season end last week with a regional first round loss at Northwood-Kensett, and were guided by two seniors.
“Catelynn Koop, this is her first year starting in the field, and she did a great job,” Head Coach Brock Holmgaard says. “She didn’t make a bunch of errors. She did a really good job of keeping everything in the infield she could, and making plays, backing girls up, being really a vocal leader, and leading with her actions. She worked hard every day. And Quinn Holmgaard, being my daughter, that one stings a little bit. It’s a tough one to get away from there. Not something I wanted to end already. It’s gonna be tough. It’s gonna be really different. She started since she was a freshman. I’ve coached her all four years. It’s going to be tough to not show up to softball every day next year without Quinn.”
Quinn Holmgaard finished the year batting .279, and made clutch plays at third base and used great throw power to make key plays. Catelynn Koop played second base and was among the cleanest fielders. Her 11 runs scored was the third-best mark on the team.
Despite a low number of wins, Holmgaard says the team maintained its composure throughout the season.
“We didn’t have the most successful year, but this team really, really stayed into the games. They continued having fun all throughout it with our big long losing streak, and not having the greatest success. They had fun. They never pointed fingers at each other. It was always positive. It was a great group of girls to work with. They were a lot of fun. And they work hard. Every day we have practice, they work hard and I’m, super proud of them.”
The Cougars went 4-26.
