The Franklin County Cattlemen were out in force during this year’s Franklin County Fair.
Joe DeVries with the cattlemen’s group tells Radio on the Go News they are staying active year round.
“So I think our mission as a county cattleman affiliate is, there’s really two parts and that is the youth to keep the youth involved and hopefully get them involved in not just cattle production but just agriculture industry in general as well as we want to support our producers, our cattle producers in the county. And so I think those are our two main objectives. Everyone knows we grill. They see us and that’s kind of our outreach and promotion side of things and then we try to do things throughout the year just for resources and support of producers.”
DeVries says a carcass class has been scheduled for July 29th.
“We will weigh the calves and then we kind of have two parts of that carcass challenge we have for our youth and then we have an open class for beef producers around the county. They’ll be sent up to Lime Springs packing plant, Upper Iowa Beef, and then producers get data back on their calves, how they cut out and those types of things.”
