The West Fork softball team, like all teams that qualify for state tournaments, is surging at the right time.
The Warhawks have put together impressive performances throughout the playoffs. They began the postseason with an 8-2 win over a South Hardin team with an all-state caliber pitching staff. In the regional semifinal, they deleted a five-run seventh inning deficit against Grundy Center. In the regional final, they shut out a high-scoring Hudson team.
“The last three games have given these guys so much confidence and I see it before we even start the game and I think this is just another game that’s going to give them that confidence going into the state tournament,” Head Coach Sadie Winfrey says. “We didn’t lose many last year so we knew it was definitely possible to make it to state. We were just taking one game at a time.”
The Warhawks (18-7) will take on Van Meter (40-1) in Tuesday’s Class 2A quarterfinal round at 12:15 p.m. at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.
