The #13 (1A) Clarksville softball team had its season end with Monday’s regional final loss at #7 (1A) Southeast Warren, and with it came the departure of four senior starters.
Head Coach Katie Burman says Katie Kampman, Mollie Bloker, Maya Backer and Lauren Kelm each played an important role.
“Katie Kampman was our starting second baseman since she was in eighth grade, and she moved over to first base this year and became our lead off and had no complaints and became such a leader for us,” Burman says. “And then Molly Bloker, our center fielder, she’s been a leader for us since eighth or ninth grade. She’s playing in the senior all-star game, so she’s always been good. And then Maya Backer, our left fielder, Lauren Kelm, our DP, they’re the two that I’ll probably talk about forever because they did not play much varsity at all until this year, their senior year. They waited for their time to shine, and they definitely did.”
Among those who played regularly, Kampman had the third-best batting average of .322 with 39 runs scored and recorded 122 putouts.
Bloker batted .287 and had a team-low two errors.
Kelm and Backer each took full advantage of their only year of regular varsity starting, and were both perfect in stolen base attempts.
The Indians finished 21-10.
