The annual Drive for Dollars Golf Outing at the Hampton Country Club had a great turnout on Saturday. Thad Boyington, Ryan Boyington and Ben Will turned in the winning scorecard.

Iowa Football and Men’s Basketball radio legend Gary Dolphin who played in this year’s event says interacting with Hawk fans and helping the community are a highlight.

I understand when you’ve got a high school in town, a small town, you’re always scrambling for dollars to upgrade band uniforms or football helmets or what have you, so I do a lot of these,” says Dolphin. “I’m glad to do them. I come over and visit with Hawk fans, number one, and help out the community and particularly the high school, in this case Hampton-Dumont. It’s a labor of love for me. I’m a small town Iowa boy and that’s mostly what this state is, a bunch of small towns with great people.”

The money raised will be donated to Jeremy Hagensack scholarship, will be used to help buy software program for the school, help pay for activity passes for students and help with operations of HD Scholarship Foundation.

Dolphin notes the importance of supporting local organizations and that he enjoyed his visit to Hampton.

Growing up in Cascade with about 1200 people. Support your local merchants. Certainly support your local school system. Spend your dollars locally if you can. And if you need to find something beyond that, in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids or Mason City, that’s okay too. But support your local merchants. I love a town like Hampton, it’s got a beautiful town square. I love the courthouse. Support the smiling faces you see on the street of Hampton every day.”

Signed items by ISU quarterback Rocco Becht and wide receiver Jaylin Noel, a Vikings helmet signed by former Iowa Hawkeye TJ Hockenson, vintage Hampton-Dumont memorabilia were also auctioned off as part of a silent auction to help raise funds.

Total funds raised are still being calculated.
