The Hampton-Dumont School District is preparing for another bond vote in November. The school hosted an information booth on its proposed $17 million bond referendum vote during last week’s Franklin County Fair. Hampton-Dumont High School Principal, Matt Trosky, tells RadioOnTheGo News administrators were able to inform the public about the projects the district would like to move forward with.

“The goal for being out there was to get signatures on a petition to be able to put the bond on the vote in November. The feedback we heard was…relatively positive, I would say. A lot of things that we’ve done over this last year through our facilities committee, through community, Mr. Becker having one-on-one meetings, multiple meetings with people to try to better understand what we could do to work to maybe pass the bond in the future. This was solely an informational opportunity and so a focus on academics, fine arts, updating science room, industrial tech and ag center. That is a robust area for us and trying to continue to improve it, and so, it was just about conversations and connection really.”
Hampton-Dumont has already committed $13.4 million in funds through the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund for improvements at the district. Projects covered by the SAVE fund include a new competition gym at the high school and secure entrances. Trosky says the next step in the bond process is verifying the signatures the district received on its petition.

“Right now, whatever signatures we have are considered unverified until Mr. Becker goes through those and makes sure that each person that signed to those lives within our district and follows all the procedures. The name, address, the phone number is all correct. Once that’s done, I do believe that our school board has to then approve it. And once that happens, then it’ll be going from there to the county auditor. It has to be there at a certain period of time to be able to put that on the ballot to be voted on in November. So as of right now, I don’t know what our unverified numbers are. I’m guessing in the next couple of weeks, Mr. Becker will come out with some information about that to be able to say these numbers and then obviously a school board will be involved in that information as well.”
If the bond passes in November, funds will be used for several projects including the construction of a new 700-seat auditorium, band and practice rooms, varsity and PE locker rooms and industrial tech and ag classrooms.
