Charles City will join the North Central Conference in the 2025-2026 school year, as announced Tuesday via a press release. The decision follows a mediation process facilitated by the Iowa Department of Education, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, wherein a transition plan was developed by the executive board of the NCC to integrate Charles City into the conference.
This resolution follows the decision of several Northeast Iowa Conference schools to leave that league, which will eventually lead to the dissolution of the conference. Charles City had previously applied for North Central Conference membership, but it was rejected by voting members of the conference.
During the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years, Charles City will compete in all North Central Conference sports except volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, softball and baseball. Starting with the 2027-2028 school year, Charles City will be a full member of the North Central Conference.
