Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig has announced the launch of the Choose Iowa Food Purchasing Program – Food Bank Pilot.

The pilot program, which was authorized by the 2024 legislative session, and is an initiative of the state’s Choose Iowa Program, aims to connect Iowa food banks with Choose Iowa members to help alleviate food insecurity within communities in the state.

225-thousand dollars is being allocated to assist Iowa food banks in providing nutritious food to those who are food insecure.

6 Iowa food banks and the Des Moines Area Religious Council will purchase products from farmers and ag businesses that are Choose Iowa members.

Those food banks include the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, which covers Butler, Floyd, and Grundy Counties.

The Food Bank of Iowa, which covers Hardin, Franklin, Wright, Cerro Gordo and Hancock Counties, will also be participating in this pilot program.
