AP School Board discusses real estate items at latest meeting

Two real estate items were discussed at the most recent Aplington-Parkersburg School Board meeting.

Superintendent Travis Fleshner says the board decided to purchase a vacant lot south of the south high school parking lot driveway.

“The school district was approached about the possibility of purchasing a lot near the high school that had not been for sale, but it really is adjacent to the main entrance to the high school,” Fleshner says. “And I think it’s important anytime you have an opportunity to look at adjacent properties to the school district, you should at least consider that. And the board agreed and they opted to purchase that lot that sits really right next to the main entrance to the high school. We’re kind of finalizing the paperwork on that.”

The purchase was approved for $28,000.

Fleshner says the board is considering allowing the City of Parkersburg to take over a small parcel of land near the baseball field for the completion of a trail.

“The school district was approached by the City of Parkersburg to possibly look at some changes in land usage over in the area of our baseball diamond. The city is proposing completing a walking path that had been started. But for part of that completion to take place, we might need to do some different things with some property around the school. So the school is really looking to consider deeding a small tract of land on the north edge of our baseball complex to the city so they can finish a bike path. So some procedural notes and some final paperwork that needs to kind of be considered there, but we’re moving in the right direction with that one.”

Language and options will be drawn up and brought back to the board for approval at an upcoming meeting.
