The reigning Class 1A state champion Grundy Center football team will carry a 26-game win streak into the 2024 season.
They’ll open by hosting rival Dike-New Hartford in Week 1. The Spartans narrowly defeated the Wolverines 7-6 in Dike in last year’s season opener, and knocked the Wolverines out of the playoffs with a 40-0 quarterfinal win at home.
In Week 2, the Spartans will visit Aplington-Parkersburg for the first time since 2014. Grundy Center won 31-7 at home last season, their first win in the series.
Another playoff rematch will follow in Week 3 when the Spartans visit Pella Christian. The Spartans won 38-6 in the regular season meeting and 35-12 in the second round of the playoffs, both at home.
District play will begin in Week 4 with a home game against East Marshall. In a rematch of last year’s semifinal game, the Spartans will host Waterloo Columbus in Week 5. Grundy Center won 21-14 in the regular season and 42-7 in the UNI-Dome.
In Week 6, the Spartans will visit South Hardin, a team they’ve beaten six games in a row. They’ll visit Alburnett in Week 6. It’ll be the program’s first visit to Alburnett; the Spartans won 35-0 at home last year.
The regular season will conclude in Week 8 with a home game against Hudson. The Spartans have won four straight in the series.
Practice will begin Monday.
