The Dumont American Legion broke ground on its Veterans Memorial last month. The memorial will be located in the empty lot between the Dumont American Legion Building and the Dumont Area Emergency Center.
The Dumont American Legion will host a live music salute Sunday, September 8th on Main Street with all proceeds going toward the new memorial. Terry Juhl is a member of the legion and tells RadioOnTheGo News the event will be held at the site of the memorial.
“What we’ve done is put together a stage band of some pretty fantastic musicians. We have a drummer, bass, lead guitar, fiddle player, steel guitar, and drums. And I think I’ve got six people lined up and they’re all exceptional musicians. With those type of people backing us, those of us that think we have some talent sound a lot better than what we really do. So what we’re hoping to do is get anybody that wants to become a star to come and walk across our stage, either with their instrument that they want to play or just their voice.”
Juhl says it’s a project that’s been a long time coming.
“It’s going to be a wonderful tribute to the present and former and future veterans that served in our area. I can’t give you the exact number, but I think so far names that have been mentioned or have been found through the various cemeteries and various places around is nearing the 1,000. 1,000 amount of people that will be a tribute to. So yes, it’s going to be a beautiful monument to the veterans.”
The Dumont American Legion’s live music salute will be held Sunday, September 8th from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Main Street near the new memorial.
