Dumont Fire Chief Zach Lewis will compete in Figure 8 Racing at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday.
Lewis says the event was on his bucket list.
“Sounds like there’s quite a bit of interest in it, and I’m hoping for a good turnout,” says Lewis. “I like doing these specials and getting to see a lot new people and race a bunch of different people around the state. It’s kind of a big thing for me. I have a bucket list for racing, and that was one of my items, if they ever brought it back. They had it many years ago. We’re about trying to get the bucket list stuff written off, and it’s gonna be an exciting time.”
Lewis notes his time on the track this year.
“I’ve slowed down quite a bit from years past. I’ve been doing this since 2010, most of those seasons were full time. Family and everything going on, slowed things down. I hit a couple races this year, like the Franklin County Fair and one at the beginning of the year in Charles City.”
The races are divided into four different divisions including Open Rear Wheel Drive, Stock Rear Wheel Drive, Stock Front Wheel Drive and Mod Front Wheel Drive. Lewis will be competing in the Stock Rear Wheel Drive Class in his 104 car.
Lewis on the preparation for race day.
“It’s a little different then what I run up here with Pro Stock. I changed a few things and I figured that’s the class I want to be in to be able to compete with the car I have. It’s been an absolute blast. My wife’s been a blessing to help me get ready for it these last couple weeks, spending the time getting it all ready to go. It’s going to be a great time. Hopefully we get some people down there to support. If you’re down there and you want to see me, wear some orange and blue and I’ll try to find you in the crowd.”
Racing begins at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Elwell Family Park on the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
