Iowa State Fair’s sale of champions held

The annual Iowa State fair’s sale of champions was held over the weekend, featuring the auction of the fairs top winning livestock. A few local participants took part. They included:

Hayden Fox, Kanawha had his Reserve Grand Champion FFA Market Hog bring $23,500. The “ Build a Better Belmond” organization was part of the buying group.

Sawyer Moricle of Clarion sold her grand champion 4-H market lamb for $21,000. A variety of local support from citizens of Clarion helped in the purchase.

In addition, Ryley Walker of Webster city sold her reserve grand champion FFA market lamb for $20,000, a new record in that category.

Also, Mason Shalla of Riverside sold his grand Champion 4-H market steer for an all-time, all species, new record price of $175,000

The sale of 16 animals totaled over $669 thousand dollars, the second highest total all-time. The Sale of Champions is managed by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) and was hosted Saturday at the Iowa State Fair.
