Monday, the Hampton City Council held a workshop meeting and continued to review a request from Franklin County Auditor, Katy Flint, and Franklin County Facilities Director, Ryan Peterson, to remove the sidewalk at the Franklin County Food Pantry location.
Peterson said he talked to a few of the neighbors, and none had concerns about the sidewalk being removed. Council members are concerned the removal would set a precedent that would cause others to want to remove sidewalks. The consensus of the council was not favorable to approving the request to remove the sidewalk.
Council member Pat Palmer said he gets contacted about dog issues and invited concerned residents to address the council. Denise Ditch and Ruth Tapp both addressed the council regarding their concerns on dog living conditions and treatment in the city. Hampton Police Chief Mark Morrison said the feedback is appreciated and these issues are taken seriously. After discussion, the council said they will continue to seek out potential ordinance improvements.
During the workshop meeting, city manager Ron Dunt informed the council of the meeting schedule changes for September. A regular session will be held Thursday, September 5th. There will be no council workshop September 9th and no regular session September 12th.
