The Aplington-Parkersburg football team is preparing for what it hopes is a bounce-back from last year’s 3-5 season under Interim Head Coach Aaron Thomas.
A program that historically prides itself on strong offensive line play will have depth in that position group. Thomas says it’ll be a similar group as last year with another year of experience under their belts.
“A lot of experience in that group,” Thomas says. “We’re gonna lean on you know Gavin Allan back at center, Colton Harken and Jackson Mulder both back at guards, Maison Copp played as a tackle last year. So a lot of those guys that have played bac,k Mason Ridder back healthy, so in essence we’ve had five guys who started up there last year. So we definitely have more depth in the offensive line than last year. Through a week, we’re in good shape and those guys are really getting after each other.”
A primarily Wing-T offense will feature a large group of ball carriers, with specific positions to hopefully be solidified within the next week.
“Creyton Eberhart played a little bit of varsity and he’s doing a good job. At fullback, we got Adrian Huisman. We also got Max Junker back there, Maddox Kruger, Kellen Reints, Austin Shepard. So that group is battling it out. We’re looking at different guys at different positions and different spots and we’ll see what shakes here in another week. The good thing is we get a scrimmage prior to Week 1, so that’s a positive.”
The Falcons will host Iowa Falls-Alden for a scrimmage on Friday, August 23. They’ll open the season at Union on Friday, August 30.
