Monday, the West Fork School Board approved a resolution ordering a special election on the issuance of $16,865,000 in general obligation school bonds. Funds would be used to remodel and improve the HVAC and electrical systems at the Rockwell elementary building and the Sheffield middle school/high school building, replace roof sections at both facilities and add a secure entrance at the Sheffield facility. The issue will be voted on during the November 5th election.

Last year, a similar bond vote failed in the district, with 59.68 percent of votes cast approving the measure. School bond issues need 60 percent approval in order to pass.

During the meeting Monday, the West Fork School Board also met with NIACC President, Joel Pederson, regarding the Regional Academy that includes West Fork, Belmond-Klemme and Hampton-Dumont. The academy will be located in Hampton and a grant was received to build the structure. The academy will feature courses related to nursing, business/ag business and manufacturing. The board then approved the district’s participation in the academy and partnership with NIACC.
