The Clarksville football made its first ever trip to Belle Plaine on Friday night for a Week 0 rematch, as aired on 99 The Wave. The game was even for a majority of the first half, until the Plainsmen pulled away in the second half for a 46-20 victory.

Clarksville cashed in the first score of the game on a five yard touchdown carry by Nathan Moon and the two point conversion was good by Sam Hoodjer to put the Indians ahead 8-0 at the end of the first quarter. Belle Plaine established its ground game in the second quarter with a pair of rushing touchdowns and two point conversions to pull ahead 16-8 at the half. In a defensive led first half both teams struggled with turnovers with three apiece.

Belle Plaine set the tone of the second half scoring five touchdowns on its seven drives with a balance of carries between three different running backs, led by Wade Sankot with three touchdowns. Clarksville went 0-4 on its first four drives of the second half. The Indians got some momentum back to close out the game with two fourth quarter touchdowns by freshman Boden Miller and Aiden Doty.

Head Coach Darren Bohlen on Belle Plaine’s run game and benefit of the matchup.

“They have three guys they’re very comfortable giving the ball to and the Ty Alcott kid is a phenomenal athlete, he’s tough to bring down,” says Bohlen. “It was tough they wore us down and that’s what we were afraid of. We were hoping we were going to be the team that was in the better shape, but when we only play nine, 10 guys, it was tough for us. That extra game allows us to get in better game shape and we still have our goals in front of us that we want to attain. We’re going to use this to watch film and get better. You make your most improvement from the first game to the second game. We’re going to stress that and we’re going to get after it.”

Clarksville moves to 0-1 and will be at North Iowa in Week 1 on Friday, August 30th.
