The #6 (2A) defending Class 2A state champion Dike-New Hartford volleyball team will begin its new season Tuesday with a new-look team but a familiar schedule. The Wolverines will join North Polk and #1 (1A) Ankeny Christian at a quad hosted by #5 (5A) Ankeny.

Head Coach Diane Harms says it’s important to maintain a quality schedule to provide growth opportunities.

“We didn’t change our schedule at all, in fact, we added a quad to open the season that we didn’t have with Ankeny, North Polk and Ankeny Christian, so did not adjust the schedule or anything,” Harms says. “The kids are competitive. We’re gonna compete and go after it. The 5A schools are just gonna make you see what do we need to work on. They have multiple weapons and I think we’re up to the challenge.”

The Wolverines will have two varsity returners to begin the season, setters Addy Joslin and Lucy Varney. Harms expects to use the early-season matches to help solidify the rest of the lineup.

Action will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Ankeny High School.
