A new childcare center is coming to Parkersburg.

The First Congregational Church of Parkersburg purchased the former Catholic Church at 704 Grant Street and is remodeling the building to open the Cornerstone Christian Childcare Center later this year.

Dave Schneiderman is a Deacon at the First Congregational Church and tells RadioOnTheGo News how the idea to open a childcare center got started.

“I served on our school board for two terms and every time we interviewed new staff for the school, most of them being young people just starting a family, a lot of times there are questions where, where’s your daycare center in town or what kind of daycare access do I have? And there’s many private daycares in town which do a wonderful job, but they just can’t take the amount of need that there is. So it was kind of a personal goal and I brought it up to our leadership there and the members of that congregation voted to go ahead and invest the money in the project to bring that opportunity to the citizens of Parkersburg and the surrounding communities. So very mission-minded church giving back to the community there.”

Once completed, the Cornerstone Christian Childcare Center will be able to care for up to 44 kids, from infant to five years of age.

Schneiderman says they are currently hiring for positions at the childcare center including for a director, assistant director and lead teachers.
