The #5 (2A) South Hardin volleyball team put together an impressive opening night win with a 3-0 sweep at Iowa Falls-Alden Tuesday, a match that aired on 99 The Wave. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-11.
In set 1, the Tigers gained momentum by scoring the first 11 points of the match, starting a trend of playing with the lead that stood for the entire match. In set 2, South Hardin led by as many as 18-4 before the Cadets strung together a scoring run. In set 3, the Tigers put together their most dominant set of the night and had match point at 24-8 before closing the match.
Senior outside hitter Ava Salvo had five kills, and says it was an all-around strong start to the season.
“Obviously a lot of girls were nervous, like first game, big crowd, whatever,” Salvo says. “And it just felt good to start off strong and just keep that momentum throughout the match. I feel like we were pretty good, like all around. We’re attacking, we’re aggressive, but also like defense, we’re doing pretty good, reading what’s happening, talking about what’s happening.”
Alli Sheldahl led with seven kills. Salvo and Abby Teske each had four aces. The 1-0 Tigers will return to action Thursday at a triangular at South Hamilton that’ll also include #11 (1A) BCLUW.
Iowa Falls-Alden is 0-1 and will join South Tama in a triangular at AGWSR Thursday.
