The Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork volleyball teams will meet to begin their seasons Thursday in Sheffield.
West Fork coach Emily Greimann says the meeting between Franklin County’s teams is a fun way to start the season.
“It’s always fun playing them,” Greimann says. “So I feel like it’s a good eye-opener for us on how we can play. And they’ve got great hitters, a great libero. So just being able to get that feedback of where are we and how can we improve. They’re a great first team to play. They just have a great team over there and we’re excited for it.”
The Warhawks are coming off last year’s 6-22 season and will feature some new lineups after the graduation of five regular rotation players. Senior outside hitter Brylie Hubka is the returning kills leader, having recorded 90 last year. Abby Schoning is back for her junior year after some reps at setter last year.
Greimann looks forward to a competitive home schedule.
“We’re so excited to have those home games. This year we have quite a few home games and we’re ready for it. We’re ready for Warhawk Nation to come support and to have those home games in our home gym and just that loud, maybe hot, but loud hot atmosphere and just ready to go.”
Hampton-Dumont-CAL is coming off last year’s 11-23 season, which more than doubled the 2022 win total. After the graduation of only two regular rotation players, they’ll look to take another step forward. Nearly all of last year’s offensive output is back, including kills leader sophomore outside hitter Aubryee Showalter and senior setter Aubree Gronewold.
West Fork leads the all-time series 13-12, but Hampton-Dumont-CAL has won two straight in the series. Action will begin at 7:00 p.m.
