The Belmond-Klemme football team will host North Butler for the first time since 2018, as the programs will meet in a season opener for a second year in a row on Friday night. North Butler won 51-0 at home last season.
Belmond-Klemme went 1-8 last season. The Broncos under new head coach Josh Faaborg returns sophomore starting quarterback Brody Heifner and lead running back in senior Aiden Friedow who combined for 10 touchdowns last season.
The Broncos will look to break through on offense after being held to 33 total yards by the North Butler defense last year.
Head Coach Josh Faaborg on what North Butler brings to this meeting and goals on offense.
“We’re ready to go. No qualms about it. They bring a quality football squad, and I know they’ve had some key guys to replace as well. We’re very excited at the opportunity to face North Butler Week 1,” says Faaborg. “We got to make sure that we hit the ground running first, and then use our returning quarterback to hit the air effectively as well off the run.”
North Butler went 6-3 last season and earned a Class A playoff berth. The Bearcats return junior starting quarterback Brody Wangsness who accounted for 954 passing yards and eight touchdowns (five passing and three rushing) last season.
Head Coach Jordan Vanderloop says B-K is a tough team and they need to bring max effort on Friday night.
“They’ve got some talented players, so they’re no team you can just roll up and think you’re gonna win,” says Vanderloop. “They’ve got some scrappy players that will hit you in the mouth and keep coming at you. We gotta make sure that we come ready to play and know that anything could happen. We gotta make sure we’re giving 110%.”
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Belmond.
