The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team will try to earn its seven straight win over Wright county rival as they host Eagle Grove on Friday. The Cowboys won last year’s meeting 49-6.
C-G-D went 3-6 last season and included a Class 2A playoff berth. Sophomore Charlie Campbell returns as leading rusher with 249 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Cowboys also return a force on defense sophomore Huxley Lingenfelter who had a team best 46 tackles last season.
Head Coach Caleb Vogel says the rivals know each other well and the Cowboys will need a fast start.
“Eagle Grove is always a fun week for us, a lot of our kids and Eagle’s kids are pretty close, they play each other in a lot of different sports,” says Vogel. “We’re only 15 minutes away, a friendly, not so friendly matchup, but it’s exciting to watch. Coming out fast, playing hard, and just doing your job. If you can do your job, all 11 guys do their job, then we’re going to be a great football team. Another thing is just having confidence, and I think that is going to play a factor.”
Eagle Grove went 0-9 last season. Sophomore Trenton Robinson helps lead the Eagles defense after collecting 26.5 tackles last season.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Clarion.
