The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball team will take the court for the first time this season by hosting a tournament on Saturday.

The Cowgirls went 4-0 at the tournament last year and will be led by seven seniors entering the new season.

C-G-D Head Coach Jessica Nail on her team managing a long day of competition.

It’s definitely tough, depending on how it goes. When you come out and you win, you feed off that. If we come out a little short, we’re gonna have to work through that,” says Nail. “We’ve worked on that mental side in the game too. You make a couple errors, you get down on yourself. I think there’s enough people that have been in this role, been in this situation before. They’re a really good group. They work well together, enjoy being around each other, a lot of good energy and positivity.”

North Butler at 1-0 won its season opener 3-0 over Northwood-Kensett on Thursday. The Bearcats went 2-3 at the tournament last year.

Belmond-Klemme at 1-0 enters off a 3-0 sweep at Bishop Garrigan on Thursday to begin its season. The Broncos went 3-1 at the tournament last year.

Other teams at the tournament include Clear Lake, Eagle Grove, Estherville-Lincoln-Central, Saint Ansgar and South Hamilton.

First serve is at 9:00 a.m. in Clarion.
