DNH Volleyball goes 1-4 in close matches at Ankeny Centennial Invite, opening NICL play Tuesday

The #6 (2A) Dike-New Hartford volleyball team went 1-4, but competed in several close matches at Saturday’s Ankeny Centennial Invite.

The Wolverines went 0-3 in pool play and dropped each set. They fell 23-21, 21-11 to #5 (5A) Ankeny, where Izzy Norton led with four kills.

They fell to #4 (5A) Cedar Falls 21-14, 21-18. Norton again had four kills, but the Wolverines were plagued by 15 attack errors.

They finished pool play with a tight 22-20, 22-20 loss to Sioux City East. Norton had seven kills and Madde Buskohl added five.

The Wolverines got their first win of the day in the consolation quarterfinals by defeating #10 (5A) Linn-Mar 25-9, 25-21. DNH had their best attack efficiency of the day at .176, led by Shannon Moorman’s five kills.

The day ended with a 2-1 loss to #10 (4A) Norwalk in the consolation semifinals. The Wolverines dropped the match by scores of 20-25, 25-23, 16-14 in the closest match of the day. Norton had nine kills and Moorman had eight.

At 2-6, DNH will begin conference play Tuesday at Waterloo Columbus, which will open its season. The Wolverines have won all 22 prior meetings. Action will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Waterloo.
