Ranked volleyball teams will meet to begin NICL-West play Tuesday when #5 (2A) South Hardin hosts #14 (2A) Grundy Center. The match will air on 99 The Wave.

The Spartans are off to a 3-0 start with quality wins in last week’s home quad, where they didn’t lose a set. The new-look team is being led by Ryanne Brubaker and Paige Venenga with 14 kills apiece. The team is running a two-setter formation with Lauren Zajac and Caturella Brown.

With a week off between matches, Head Coach Lori Willis says it’ll be a quality start to conference play.

“Anytime that we’re going to play in the conference is going to be good,” Willis says. “I look forward to our very first match for the NICL with South Hardin. They bring back the most that has had success. So they’re going to be a challenge right out of the gate.”

South Hardin is 5-2 after a 2-2 outing at Saturday’s tournament at Humboldt, with losses to #10 (3A) Kuemper Catholic and the hosts, and wins over Fort Dodge and #15 (2A) South Central Calhoun. Senior Alli Sheldahl has taken charge offensively with a team-high 45 kills. Serving has been a strong point with 44 aces in the seven matches.

Grundy Center has won two straight in the series. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:20 p.m. and the first serve will be at 7:30.
